The house, on the corner of Hunter & Marsden Streets Parramatta was possibly the residence of John Claughton, cab proprietor; the neighbouring house with corrugated iron fencing may have belonged to Samuel Turner, bootmaker; the house on the opposite corner (west side of Mardsen Street) may have belonged to Edwin Robson.
In the distance a Palladian villa can be seen, possibly the rectory of St John's and former residence of Reverend Samuel Marsden, designed by Francis Greenway.
