    Dates from directories place the Exchange Hotel on the corner to 1858/9 and say Mader's shop was vacant in 1866; 1861 account is most in accord with the view, calling the corner building Squatter's Exchange, though the proprietor is given as John Brewster, stock and station agent, and none of the directories about this time give the form that includes Rea's name. No directories for 1860 or 1862
