Blamire Young was an artist, born on 9 August 1862 at Londesborough, Yorkshire. He was recognised as one of the leading artists in water colour in Australia. He exhibited with the Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Painters in water colours and other groups. Young was a prolific writer and critic. He was a regular contributor to The Argus newspaper and was an an art critic for the Melbourne Herald in 1929-1934.

This ten page manuscript is similar to a final draft for Blamire Young's article on a small water colour which he saw at the Mitchell Library in 1910, and then re-visited in 1923 when compiling the article. Young attributes the watercolour `Scene on the coast of France', now at ML 117, to Richard Parkes Bonington on stylistic grounds.
