    Thomas James Gleeson, born at Cooyal, near Mudgee, New South Wales on the 13 January 1897. He attended the Cooyal Public School and later undertook training to be a bush teacher at Hereford House, a Teacher's College Annex at Glebe, Sydney.
    After completing his qualifications he commenced teaching at the age of 18 and worked in various positions and schools in Sydney including Yasmar Estate at Haberfield. He attained the position of headmaster at Woolwich where he remained until his retirement in 1962.
