    Whyte Hall British Products found the bust on their premises, 29A Oxford Street, Sydney, when they took it over from the previous owner, W. Greer. A Mr Vallack, c/ Machinery & Electrical Co. Pty Ltd who occupied 31A Oxford St from 1929 and 29A Oxford St from 1931 to 1939 called some time after to say Mr Greer, owner of the premises, had paid for the bust because of failure of a public subscription raised to pay for it.

  • Attributions / conjectures

    At the time of the bust being made there was a sculptor called Fontana in London who worked for the N.S.W Government but his first name was Giovanni (see MSS. Cat).

    Mallett, D. T., 'Mallett's index of artists' 1976, lists several Fontanas but not this one. Mallet adds note 'many artists of that name in Italy'
