    William Henry Gill was a fine art dealer in Melbourne who managed a private gallery, the Fine Art Society (FAS), until its closure in 1940. The FAS dealt in antiques, furniture, porcelain and pictures, exhibiting works of Australian artists such are Norman Lindsay, George Lambert, Tom Roberts and Arthur Streeton.

  • Scope and Content
    The manuscript register of sales in the form of an exercise book provides the titles, edition numbers, names of buyers as well as the prices paid for works.
    Also contained are enclosures including letters to buyers Lindsay etchings, sales receipts and printed catalogues produced by the Fine Art Society.
  • Signatures / Inscriptions

    On the first page is a note written and signed by W.H Gill: `June 1940, This is a special record book of all Norman Lindsay etchings published from his first to his last and in the order of publication and all contains the list of names to whom we have sold proofs of each etching during the years we represented Norman Lindsay'.
    `This is a valuable book for future reference and should be preserved for all time. I am positive no other such record book exits'.
