Inscription in ink on reverse 'With love & best wishes to Barbara & Geoffrey from Thea'; also a figure, probably '875' in top left corner.

The photograph bears no photgrapher's mark; attributed to Judith Fletcher by Janine Burke in her 'Australian women artists 1840-1940'. Collingwood, Vic., Greenhouse, 1980, page 50. The caption to the reproduction of the photograph in this publication reads 'Thea Proctor in her costume for the 1923 Sydney Artist's Ball ... Inscribed in ink on reverse lower left corner of photo in Proctor's hand is '[A]ged 42'. Proctor was born in 1879, making the date of the photograph 1921 or 1922. An inscription in pencil on reverse in a different hand reads 'Proctor - in costume for the Artists Ball - Sydney 1921 or 1922''.
