Office bearers of the Australian Patriotic Association addressed in the correspondence include Sir John Jamison (chair), W. C. Wentworth (deputy chair), John Stephen Jnr. (secretary) and E. S. Hall (secretary). Correspondents include John Bowring, G. R. Nichols, E. Deas Thomson, Alexander Macleay, T. C. Harington, and two supporters in London, Stuart Donaldson and H. L. Bulwer, MP. The letterbook may have been kept, in part, by a founder and secretary of the association, John Stephen Jnr., son of Justice John Stephen. The departure of H. L. Bulwer from London in late 1837 resulted in a hiatus in the association’s representation there, and may account for the end-date of the letters represented in the volume.

A bound ledger book containing manuscript transcripts of 35 letters received by office bearers of the Australian Patriotic Association, September 1834-May 1837; transcripts of 2 poems; and a manuscript transcript of a letter from Captain Matthew Flinders on the Cumberland to Governor Philip Gidley King, originally dated 24 September-10 October 1803
