  • Scope and Content
Included in the collection are lithographs, woodcuts, engravings, photographic lithograhs, photographs and sketches. The volume may have been compiled by Gilks compared with handwriting of contents lists with signatures and inscriptions to show samples of his work and that of other engravers, printers and publishers working in Victoria. These include Nicholas Chevalier, Charles Troedel, David Tulloch, Campbell and Ferguson, Fergusson and Mitchell, Samuel Calvert, S.T. Gill, James J. Blundell, R. Jenny, F.Cogne, A.J. Stopps, F. Quarrill, E. Thomas, Wragg, T. Ham, J. Noone, J. & G.R. Ashton, Richard Shepherd, Cyrus Mason, G.A. Appleton, J.B. Philp. Some samples have been cut from newspapers and periodicals, and there are some early photographic lithographs by R.W. Niven (ca. 1853). There are four sketches by Gilks, and a lithograph on linen as well as progress proofs of a number of views.
