The snuff box was probably made in England by Nathaniel Mills, and the embossed Australian plaque added to the lid later by Dick, the method of application being concealed by the decorative border. The silver mark of Dick has been very heavily impressed and could have covered an earlier mark. The Making of such a box is highly skilled work, and the engraved lines on the sides of the box are typical of Mills' work. The engraved inscription would have been done by Samuel Clayton.
