- ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
Kent Brewery was established on its Broadway site in 1835 by John Tooth and Charles Newnham. In 1888 Tooth & Co became a public company and was then taken over by Adelaide Steamship Company in 1980. In 1983 Tooth Breweries were sold to Carlton & United Breweries. Kent Brewery had the reputation of being the highest cost producer within the CUB group. It was decided that its operations were too high to be sustained and its impending closure was announced in 2003. This took place in 2005. - General note
