Information from the artist: when the Royal Mint was closed in Sydney a syndicate was formed to recover the gold from the gutters etc. Some years later a second syndicate was formed, which obtained gold from the dust lying in the building. The two drawings, numbers 41-42, ca.1927 show the second syndicate at work.
