Two of the portraits, lower centre (78 William Russell and 79 William Macleay) appear to be from drawings; others are from photographs. The printed key (part missing, lower left) includes the names of members with the districts they represented.

Dalton' of 'his preparation of a sheet collection of the portraits of all the members of the Legislative Assembly under the First Reform Parliament ... ', and comment on 'Mr. Dalton's group of the heads of the Assembly, being the original picture from which the smaller published sheet is reproduced ...', in Sydney Morning Herald, Sept. 13, 1859, p.12, col. 3 and Dec. 20, 1859, p.5., col.1.
