  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Alan Anderson (d.1982) was a sound engineer in the Commonwealth Department of Information photographic unit in the Middle East during the Second World War, with Damien Parer, George Silk, and Ron Williams, under the command of Frank Hurley.

Neil McDonald is the author of books about Damien Parer including Damien Parer's War (Rev. ed. South Melbourne, Vic. : Lothian, 2004), in which he acknowledges "Parer's friend, the late Alan Anderson" as foremost among those "who preserve material for years at a time", and thanks Anderson's executor and widow for allowing him to use Anderson's correspondence (p.xii). McDonald cites Parer's "correspondence with Alan Anderson (Anderson papers in the possession of the author)" amongst his documentary sources (p. 358).

Some of the photographs in this collection are published, with sources, in McDonald's book, Damien Parer's War.
