C. Roper was a sketcher and engraver, thought originally to be the same person as Edward Roper, but this is now known to be incorrect. Roper contributed illustrations to publications including the Illustrated Sydney News, the short-lived Sydney Punch and the Illustrated Melbourne Post.

The initial of the artist's Christian name has been deciphered as C but it is indistinct
There is no C. Roper listed in Sydney directories 1843-1863
A note of entries under the name Roper in Sydney directories 1843-1863 is filed as PXn 129

The possibility that the artist might be Edward Roper was considered but seems unlikely
