    Possibly a later copy of a now lost drawing by convict artist Richard Browne.

    The drawing is close, but not identical, to an engraving, "Newcastle, in New South Wales, with a distant view of Port Stephen. Taken from Prospect Hill.", which was published by Absalom West in 1812, as no.6 of his Views in New South Wales. The original drawing for this engraving is said to be by IR Brown, but it is likely to be by Richard Browne: see Dictionary of Australian Artists Online at daao.org.au. Richard Browne was known to be in Newcastle at this time.

    It is likely that both TR Brown and IR Brown are in fact Richard Browne
