    Lorna Hughes, nee Ingle, was sent from Cessnock to Sydney during the Depression. She obtained work as a housemaid for the children's writer, Ethel Curlewis, at Avenel, Mosman, in the late 1920s.

    These letters (20), including transcriptions, refer to news and events regarding the Curlewis and Hughes families, including the stringencies of daily life during the war. One letter dated 18 Sept. 1942 mentions Ethel Curlewis' son, Adrian, then an army officer as missing in Malaya.
