  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Philip Gidley King, 1758-1808, became the third Governor of New South Wales in 1800. His only legitimate son was Phillip Parker King, 1791-1856. P.P. King was appointed resident commissioner of the Australian Agricultural Co. for ten eventful years in its history. Of Governor King’s four daughters, Anna Maria (b.1793) married Hannibal Macarthur in 1812.

George Crossley, 1749-1823, convict and attorney, was sued by creditors for dishonoured bills of exchange. D’Arcy Wentworth, representing one creditor, had obtained a judgment against Crossley. Yet Governor King allowed Crossley to continue trading subject to conditions. Crossley failed to observe these conditions, had his goods seized, and prosecuted Wentworth. On appeal Governor King found for Wentworth.
