- Scope and ContentThis cartoon parodies the production of popular travel writing in the late 18th-early 19th century as a cycle of plagiarism of existing accounts of voyages of exploration. The title refers to La Fontaine's fable of the jay passing itself off as a peacock, dressed in a peacock's moulted feathers. Authors named amongst a pile of volumes and circulating copy include Cook, d'Entrecasteaux, Bougainville and La Perouse.
