“Martens Journal ZA 429, records that on 1 June 1834, Beagle was at Port Famine, 9 June passing through the Magdalen Straits, and by 11 June was through the Straits of Magellan to the Pacific Ocean. When he drew this portrait, he had been on board the Beagle since Dec. 1833”.
