Peter Shorer has worked on antiquities of many periods; excavation, reconstruction, conservation, display, moulding antiquities for scientific examination and electroforming reproductions for display and retail. He has worked for the British Museum for many years and in 1969 established his own private business making reproductions of antiquities as Historic Jewellery Reproduction cast in gold or silver.

A small card accompanies the medal and includes the following details: Peter Shorer, Antiquity Reproduction, Drake Medal 1589 A.D. The original world-map, of silver, commemorates Sir Francis Drake's voyage round the world, 1577-1580, in the Golden Hind when California was visited and named on this map.
