1 sketchbook (22 leaves, 166 sketches) - pencil, pen, ink and wash on wove paper - 18.5 x 23.5 cm.
Scope and Content
This sketchbook contains drawings in England, Wales and Europe interspersed with landscape views of Van Diemen’s Land (Hobart Town, Derwent Valley, Baghdad and Mills Plains) and Aboriginal Australians. Two of the sketches on [p.40] depict Aboriginal groups with their names inscribed above in ink `Cola[--?], Maccame, Wanwee', `Telliacbuya, Oredia, Kikadapaula, Umarah, Nanalagura, Ludawiddia'.

General note

Sketchbook has marbled cover with leather spine.

The inscriptions suggest that the overall process of numbering the sketchbbooks might have been done after at least 166 sketches of VDL had been completed, elsewhere.
The `80 in red book' refers to sketchbook DGA 46.
