Gifford Eardley (d. 1974) a train enthusiast, was foundation vice-president of the Australian Railway Historical Society and author of books and articles on railways in Australia.

The collection is dated by reproduction of a sketch of the arrival at Parramatta, September 26, 1855, of the train that inaugurated the New South Wales Railway system (PXD 535/1, Item 4a).

Box 26 includes photographic prints of Bauple Mill railway line which could not be returned to their original file.
