  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    George Washington Lambert (1873-1930), artist, was born on 13 September 1873 at St Petersburg. The family migrated, reaching Sydney on 20 January 1887. Lambert died on 29 May 1930 at Cobbity, near Camden.
    Jose became Lambert's brother-in-law when he married Amy Lambert's sister, Evelyn. Jose travelled to London in 1903, where he published his work, 'Two awheel', illustrated by Lambert, (see ML 981/J). Jose also contributed an introductory essay on Lambert for 'The Art of George W. Lambert', (1924).

    f.14 - Mountain mists: A grizzled old traveller
    f.15 - Presently we came to a swamp (In Kanimbla)
    f.16 - Headpiece to 'A Camp on the Lapstone'
    f.17 - The Camden Road (I'm a stranger here)
    f.18 - The line on the fence (A benign old man by the roadside). Inscribed with 'In search of Burragorang' on image; 'The line on the fence' on verso.
    f.19 - Headpiece to 'Macquarie Pass'
    f.20 - Bushman in trouble (Things were in the most delightful tangle). Inscribed 'The Lachlan Plains' on image; 'Bushman in Trouble' on verso.
    f.21 - Woman with pigs (Stupid little pigs). Inscribed with 'On roads aflame' on image; 'Woman with pigs' on verso.
    f.22 - Ted (I don't know that they could altogether help it)
