Daniel Henry Deniehy (1828-1865), lawyer, journalist and parliamentarian, was born at Sydney, son of Henry and Mary Deniehy. He was educated in Sydney until 1843 when he travelled with his parents to Europe where he was further educated privately. Deniehy returned to Sydney in 1844 and finished his schooling before being articled to solicitor N.D. Stenhouse. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1851. Deniehy founded and edited the weekly journal 'The Southern Cross' (1859) and later, while living temporarily in Melbourne, edited 'The Victorian' (1862-1864).
