  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Scottish born David Ramsay was a medical practitioner, merchant, and amateur naturalists, who established the import-export business known as Raine & Ramsay in Sydney 1823. Following the dissolve of this partnership with Raine in 1828, Ramsay acquired pastoral land at Fish River and a plant nursery at Dobroyd farm. In 1825 he married Sarah Ann Lord who was the eldest daughter of Simeon Lord. Sarah and David Ramsay had ten children, including the noted ornithologist Edward Ramsay. -- Reference: Australian Dictionary of Biography. Vol.2, 1788-1850.     Henry Fox, master mariner was born in Devon. He arrived in Van Diemens Land in 1840 and between 1841 and 1853 was master of various coastal and Pacific vessels based in Sydney. In later years he was well known as a businessman.

    Includes inventory of folder 4 contents compiled by J. P. Ramsay in 2004, great-grandson of Isobel Pilmor Fox, nee Williamson, from material inherited by his father, John Simeon Pierson Ramsay (1884-1981), and assembled into albums and folders by Jean Marginson, nee Ramsay (1913-1982).

Other documents, including certificates, and photographs relating to the respective families, including information on births, deaths and marriages, and other biographical material, 1811-1977. Folder includes inventory of contents.
