Charles Archer (1813-1862), of Scottish heritage, joined his brothers in Queensland in 1841. They took up land in the Moreton Bay district and were among the area's earliest settlers. Charles was a talented artist as well as a skilful surveyor and mapmaker. He recorded his travels in works like [this], frequently sending pictures to relatives in Scotland and Norway. "Sketches of the Bush" with its English provenance can be assumed to be an example of such work. -- Tim McCormick catalog note
