  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Gerald Weingarth was Chief of Protocol of the Australian First Fleet Re-Enactment Company which organised the First Fleet Re-Enactment Voyage (FFRV) of 1987-1988, from London to Sydney via Portsmouth, Tenerife, Rio de Janeiro, Cape Town and Mauritius. Weingarth was on board the flagship 'Soren Larsen' when the fleet of square-rigged sailing vessels left London on the 27 April 1987 bound for Portsmouth; he re-joined the ship when the fleet sailed from Botany Bay into Port Jackson on 26 January 1988. He was involved in the planning before the voyage, which included organizing a Papal Blessing of the fleet, and then flew ahead of the fleet to organize its arrival, and the various ceremonies, receptions, presentations and social functions that took place in each port of call.
