  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The Port Phillip Association was formed in Hobart in June 1835 to establish a settlement in what is now Victoria. It was originally called the Geelong and Dutigalla Association, and became known as the Port Phillip Association in March 1836.
  • Scope and Content
    Consists of a collection of letters and papers relating to the Port Phillip Association dated 1835-1866. Correspondents include John Batman, J. H. Wedge, James Simpson, J. T. Gellibrand, G. Hamilton, M. Connolly, C. Swanston, J. P. Fawkner, C. J. Weedon and W. J. Sams.

    Documents and papers include:-
    1. List of names possibly members of Port Phillip Association
    2. Scheme for civilizing ... the Aborigines of New Holland (in Wedge's hand)
    3. List of articles supplied to the Natives at Port Phillip
    4. Provision supplied to J. Wedge
