  Work is unsigned. Dated and titled from the label pasted on the back of frame
  Formerly attributed to John Eyre. Compared with two signed watercolours by Eyre, Sydney from the West side of the Cove (DG 217) and View of Sydney from the West side of the Cove (DG V1/5) the style seems quite different. A similar view by G.W. Evans titled `A view of the west side of Sydney cove, c.1803' is located at DG V1/73. Notes on attribution of this and other paintings by Evans are held at PXn 265
  Another note pasted to back of frame reads `Taken from the east side of the Cove. Shows the government granary on the extreme left with the Barracks behind it and the government wharf in front and Campbell's store on the extreme right. The Commissariat Stores, completed in 1812 are shown in course of erection in front of the hospital buildings. The gaol with its stone wall is prominent below one of the windmills and St Philip's Church stands out clearly' -- Pictures card catalogue
