    John Verge, architect, builder and pioneer settler was born in Hampshire, England in 1782. He sailed from London on the Clarkstone and arrived at Port Jackson on 27 December 1828 with his son. Most of his architectural work in Sydney appears to have been between 1830 and 1837 and primarily in domestic and professional architecture - Source: Australian Dictionary of Biography (online edition)
