- Scope and ContentA note with the item reads : 'The Koran, written by the calligrapher Muhammad Suhrawardi. Placed in the Royal Library (at Delhi) 15 Ramazan A.H. 1017 (23 December A.D. 1608). The Mogul Emperor reigning at this date was Jahangir'. A display caption with the item reads : 'An original manuscript copy of the Koran written in the Persian character about A.D. 1600. A fine example of the intricate design and rich colour used in Oriental illumination'. The opening pages, and the margins of the text feature designs decorated in gold and painted with predominantly red and blue pigments. The text, probably in Arabic, is written in black and red ink with gold embellishment. The cover, which is damaged, is lacquered papier-mache decorated with a brightly coloured floral design.
