  • Scope and Content
    Autograph letter signed by Matthew Flinders, written from Coepang [Coupang] Bay, Timor, and Mauritius. The letter describes the voyage on the schooner Cumberland, 12 Oct.-10 Nov. 1803, from the Great Barrier Reef through Torres Strait to Coupang, and discusses the possibility of obtaining from the islands, cattle for New South Wales. Flinders then describes the rest of the voyage to Mauritius, how on the 16th Dec. 1803 he was taken prisoner by the French, and how he was subsequently treated as a prisoner.
