  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    "Born in Bath, England he arrived in New Zealand in 1852. He worked as a clerk in New Zeqland before becoming a teacher of drawing at Nelson College, Nelson. A meticulous draughtsman he painted mainly New Zealand landscapes which he exhibited at the Victorian Academy of Arts, Melbourne, 1872-84. He became well-known in Australia for the engravings published in the Australasian Sketcher and the Pictureque Atlas of Australasia" -- Encyclopedia of Australian Art / A. McCulloch, 1994 p. 314
