John Harris (1754-1838), surgeon, arrived in Sydney on the 'Surprize' in June 1790. In 1793 he bought James Ruse's farm and built Experiment Farm Cottage. He was made a magistrate in 1800.

4 August 1837; Orange Lodge certificate relating to John Harris at Coagh, Ireland. John Harris was known as John Harris (senior) to distinguish him from his cousin John Harris of Shane's Park (they were nephews of Surgeon John Harris).
5 May 1844; Marriage Certificate of John Harris (senior) and Nancy Ann McKee, at Ballygoney, Ireland
4 April 1843; Letter to John Harris of Shane's Park from his sister Nancy Mitchell in Kentucky
18 October 1853; Testimonial by Thomas Aitken of the Normal Institution, Sydney relating to George Harris.
