  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Bill Cantwell (1899-1990) was born Ida Florence Wilks, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Wilks of Maitland, N.S.W.. She married journalist Harry Cantwell who died in Sydney in 1962. A friend to many Australian artists, including James Gleeson and Sir Sidney Nolan, she was also a friend and confidante of the physician and medical historian Sir Edward Ford. Cantwell was a benefactor of a number of Australian cultural and tertiary institutions.
