  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

"Ruth Galene migrated to Australia as a young child, arriving with her parents from Berlin. In Sydney she studied expressive dancing at the Gertrud Bodenwieser school and then classical ballet with a range of teachers. Galene danced briefly with the Borovansky Ballet and then joined Ballet Rambert during its Australian tour of 1947-1949. She left Australia with Ballet Rambert when the company returned to England. In England Galene studied with Vera Volkova before joining the Roland Petit company in Paris and then, after studies with Victor Gsovsky, the Marquis de Cuevas company.
In the early 1950s Galene danced with the Melbourne-based National Theatre Ballet and then became involved in teaching and composition and choreographed some dance works for Ballet Australia in the 1960s. She developed her own system of dance training called Dance Dynamics and directs Red Opal Dance Theatre, originally called Yongala Ballet and then the New Dance Theatre" -- Australian Dancing website.
