  • System of arrangement
The sketchbooks are nos. 1 and 3 of three G.F. Dashwood sketchbooks offered to the Library in 1926. Sketchbook no.2 appears not to have been acquired by the Library. The sketchbooks are accompanied by a handwritten numbered contents list by an unknown compiler. This numbering, including non-consecutive and half-numbers, was retained by the Library for sketchbook no.1. Sketchbook no.3 was renumbered, continuing from sketchbook no.1. Sketchbook no. 1: ff.1-35; sketchbook no. 3: ff.35a-93. Numbers corresponding to titles in the earlier contents list are visible on many sketches in sketchbook no.3. Some of these titles are used or are recorded in the Notes.
