William Kent (1751-1812) became a lieutenant in the British Navy in 1781. In 1795 he commanded the 'Supply' on the voyage which brought John Hunter to New South Wales as the new governor. He received several grants of land, including an area near the Tank Stream and at Kissing Point. - Scope and ContentDeed of grant of 170 acres of land to Lieutenant William Kent, to be known as Somervail, in the Field of Mars; signed by John Hunter, Governor of New South Wales; witnessed by John Palmer, James Williamson and William Sutton; registered and signed by David Collins, Secretary to the Colony.
