    John Haslam trained as an architect in England and migrated to Adelaide, South Australia in 1879 to work as an architect and engineer. He moved to Sydney around 1886.
  • Scope and Content
    1. Original of a 4-page document A Precis of the Career of John Haslam Architect and Engineer. The first three pages are typed, the fourth is handwritten by John Haslam. On the back of the last page 4 there is a note For the Editor of the Sydney Morning Herald

    2. Sepia photograph of a corner building signed John Haslam and dated 1886

    3. Sepia photograph, labelled Exchange Corner - from a watercolour before erection, and dated 1887

    4. 2 faded sepia photographs, plus frames, of the Grotto of St Lourdis at St Vincent Hospital, both signed by John Haslam, and dated 1894

    5. Sepia large group photograph of the Tramways Employees Picnic produced by J. Robinson, Illawarra Studios, Carlton N.S.W .. On the back price 1/6 a signature plus a date 11/9/05

    6. Notebook with the 1879 calendar on the inside cover

    7. Horoscope reading by David Freres, dated 23/8/88 about John Haslam is written in the first few pages. The notebook is mostly full of astrological information, diagrams, charts and figures

    8. 4 page handwritten Letter to the Editor of the Sun. It was written while he was living at Neutral Bay, but not dated

    9. Book of 1877 By Laws of the Eboracum Lodge, number 1611 in York. Inside the front cover is a small presentation certificate to Bro John Haslam on his initiation March 17th 1877 and signed by J.S. Cumberland

    14. Letter, dated 21/6/20 to My own sweet darling, Loreen. Loreen was the second child from the second marriage

    15. Envelope plus letter inside. The envelope is addressed, For Loreen the darling of my old age. To be opened only if my death occurs. The letter was written on 20/11/18

    16. Bundle of letters all relating to the setting up of a patent for the Excelsior patent Skylight Bar, dating from 1904 to 1913. There are some sketches and diagrams included

    17. Pair of earlier glasses a Pince Nez set of Spectacles with gold fittings and a gold chain, including the case. Supplied by H.A.Barraclough Pty Ltd 219 Collins Street. The glasses cloth is labelled H.P. Cooper, Chemist and Optician, Glenhuntly Road Elsternwick

    18. Reproduction of the damaged sepia portrait of a man seated and reading, and a woman standing and looking over his shoulder.
    The original was labelled Cabinet Portrait W.P.Glaisby York On the back it had the name W.P Glaisby Spurriergate York.

    19. JohnHaslam's brass plate with his Name and Profession etched into it , John Haslam Architect

    20. A certified photocopy of the Davis/Haslam/Honroth family trees

    21. Typed document of 4 pages, headed Extracts from a letter received from Miss M.E. Haslam
    China inland mission.
