Reverend John Muggridge Orsmond, who first arrived in Tahiti in 1817, was a missionary of the London Missionary Society and one of the first Europeans to master the Tahitian language. Eliza Orsmond, his granddaughter, was born in 1855 and married Walter Parker in 1872.
