    The etchings, comprising two proofs from each of the six plates, are listed below in order as published in Barrow, John Sir, 1764-1848: 'The eventful history of the mutiny and piratical seizure of H.M.S. Bounty : its cause and consequences / illustrated by six etchings from original drawings by Lieut.-Colonel Batty'. London : John Murray, 1831

    None of the etchings is signed, dated or titled. They were used to illustrate Barrow, John Sir, 1764-1848. The eventful history of the mutiny and piratical seizure of H.M.S. Bounty : its cause and consequences / illustrated by six etchings from original drawings by Lieut.-Colonel Batty. London : John Murray, 1831. The reproductions in this volume have printed below the view 'Drawn & etched by Lieut. Col. Batty', followed by title and name of original artist. Below this is printed 'Published by John Murray, Albermarle Street, 1831'.

    Artists of the original works from which Batty made his etchings, were William Smyth (George Young & his Wife ...; Residence of John Adams, Pitcairns Island ...); John Webber (View near Matavai Bay ...; Creek in Matavai Bay ...); and Peter Heywood (H.M. Ship Pandora in the act of foundering). Original sketches by Smyth, which appear to have been used for these etchings, are held in the Mitchell Library (ML ref. PXB 55: microfilm copy at CY 4853, frames 74-120).
