    The Donkin family history begins with the arrival of the Rev. Thomas Donkin (1800-1890) in Australia. He was born in Hunmanby, Yorkshire and married Harriet (nee Marston) Donkin (1907-1889) in 1833. They sailed to Australia where he was appointed Chaplain to the Darlinghurst Goal and later as an incumbent of St Bartholomew's at Prospect. He and his wife retired to their new home "The Hermitage", Kurrajong near Windsor until it was destroyed by bushfire in 1889. They had eight children, Sara Ann Donkin, Thomas Clarke Donkin, Harriet Elizabeth Donkin, Frederick Willian Donkin, Edwin Davis Donkin, Henry Donkin, John Boyd Donkin, Francis Marion Donkin.
    Katherine Annie (nee Busby) Donkin (1857-1948) married John Bloyd Donkin (1848-1920) at St Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney 1880. They had three children Harriet Beatrice Donkin, William Dalkeith Donkin, Edwin Gordon Donkin and later settled in `Aston' Bellevue Hill in 1885 then moved to Lake Cowal Station.
  • Scope and Content
    1 January 1879 - 3 March 1888; The diary of Katherine Annie Donkin (nee Busby) written from her home at `Redleaf' (now the Woollahra Council building). It describes her life in Sydney, her wedding, attending social functions, visits with friends, holidays and travels to Goulburn, Bowral, Moss Vale, Mittagong, Adelaide and Melbourne. The diary is accompanied by `Diary extracts' transcribed by Patrick Donkin in August 2005, selectively listing names of significant people and events.
    2006; Printed book `A history of the Donkin family - the story of the origins of the Rev. Thomas and Harriet Donkin and their descendants'. This narrative lists details of the Donkin family history which was researched and compiled by Paddy (Patrick) Donkin.
    Computer disks: The first disc contains pdf images of the complete diary and the extract as well as images of John Bloyd Donkin and Katherine Annie Donkin; The other 3 disks contains details and images of the Donkin family and information on related families not included in the printed book.
