This relic is a set with the scale of sines and pair of parallel rules DR 12 & DR 13. A letter filed with DR 11 dated 19.4.1906, signed by EA Burney states that he believed that Captain Cook gave these relics to his grandfather, Dr William Burney, the then headmaster and founder of the Royal Academy, Gosport. Dr William Burney (1762-1832) established his Academy, or school, in 1791.
