    MANUSCRIPT FRAGMENTS
    3 June 1769; One page of autograph observations on the transit of Venus. An accompanying note reads: 'Observations in the handwriting of Capt. Cook made during his voyage round the world; sent me by his widow, A.D. 1823 J D'
    Jan. 14-24; Aug. 13-18 1769; Journal fragments. Three stray leaves from a copy of the Endeavour log. The two leaves for 14-24 Jan. describe Tierra del Fuego and include a sketch of a bay. The leaf for 13-18 Aug. describes the voyage from the Society Islands to New Zealand. The writing is not that of Cook. These fragments are believed to be from Zachary Hicks' log of HMS Endeavour held at Alexander Turnbull Library, Wellington, New Zealand.
    26-29 Mar. 1773; 12 Nov.-4 Dec. 1774; Journal fragments: two stray leaves from the original Cook log of the second voyage in the British Museum (BM Add.MSS.27956).
    Oct. 1773; Isolated page numbered 76, part of Cook's description of Tongatabu. Annotated in pencil: 'a page of his Voyage, written by the Celebrated Captain Cook, and was in the possession of his widow. [signed] Wm. Upcott'.

    A bound volume with manuscript title page 'Papers in the autograph of Captain James Cook (1728-1779)'. The volume includes the bookplate of Leicester Harmsworth.
    The binding on this volume matches that of the Cook volume at Safe 1/82.
