  • Scope and Content
In this letter to his cousin in Wells, England John S. Manning gives an account of settling in the bush. He describes his arrival in Launceston before moving to Sydney and then travelling inland to set up a sheep station at Adalong Creek (probably Adelong Creek in the Murrumbidgee district) 300 miles from Sydney in October 1839. He writes about the climate, the countryside, the dishonesty of Sydney merchants, stock prices and bush life in general including a description of his house and diet.
