  Originally housed between sheets of glass to which a small sheet of paper with the following note was attached: '"Captn. Cook's Note to one of his Charts as to Magellans Straits & autograph signature in different ink (apparently a Trial of a new pen) & valuable as comprising the signature pasted on his engraved portrait" - The Revd Canon Bennett'
