    1. Capture of La Resistance & La Constance by the St. Fiorenzo & Nymphe off Brest Mar 9 1797
    2. The Thetis and the Hussar after an action of an hour and a quarter, so disabled in their sails and rigging as to be disqualified from pursuing the three other ships of the enemy, which are represented as making off under all the sail they could spread - the Thetis and Hussar both hoisting out their boats - May 16th 1795
    3. Engagement between the Thetis and the Hussar and five large French armed ships (on the coast of Virginia) when two of the five were taken after an action of an hour and a quarter - a third struck, but made off on finding the British Frigates disabled from pursuing - May 16th 1795
    4. The Thetis and the Hussar (on the coast of Virginia) bearing down to attack five large French armed ships, which were formed in a line to receive them - May 16th 1795
    5.La Prevoyante, prize of the Thetis. Captain Cochrane making a signal of distress, after having carried away her tiller in a hard gale of wind - the Thetis bearing down to her assistance
    6. The Thetis after having been towed into Lyn-Haven Bay, in Virginia, rides out a very heavy gale of wind with her only efficient anchor, having nearly eight feet water in her hold and the leaks increasing on the pumps till the storm abated. The foresail and fore-stay-sail were blown loose, and could not be reduced for some hours - the Cleopatra and Thisbe in company
    7. The Thetis hove off after laying on shore six days (on the coast of North Carolina), the Thisbe and Lynx being also in company - Dec. 29th 1794
    8. The corpse of Moworoah, a Chief of Otahytey, as exposed after death, agreeable to the custom of the island. The body was remarkably tatowed [ie tattooed] in black bands and patches, particularly the arms and legs (see also SAFE/PXA 563 f. 43)
    9. A Toopaporo of Otahytey, with the corpse lying in it covered - the cloth at the bottom covers offerings and other offerings are placed on the stage before the body (see also SAFE/PXA 563 f. 31)
    10. The Island Maietea with a canoe of the Natives - the Providence and Assistant under sail along the shore (see also SAFE/PXA 563 f. 23)
    11. The Brothers - small islands on the coast of New Guinea, middle part bearing SW by W about 5 miles distant with a canoe of the Natives under sail - The Rovidence, and Assistant, at anchor
    12. NW side of the Island Whytootackay - with a canoe of the Natives under sail - the Providence laying too - the Assistant under easy sail (see also SAFE/PXA 563 f. 64)
    13. The Devil's Punchbowl, one of the Northern Islands of the New Hebrides - middle part (with a promising opening) SW 1/2 W about 4 miles distant (see also SAFE/PXA 563 f. 67)

    The Providence images in this album are closely related to another Tobin album of a later date also held by the Mitchell Library (SAFE/PXA 563). Versions of six preparatory works from the Naval watercolour drawings album described here appear in the later Tobin album as more highly finished, enhanced works (see SAFE/PXA 563, ff. 23, 31, 43, 64 and 67).
    Further details of the ships, their captains and the circumstances of the incidents depicted are contained in the plates.
