  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Samson Henry Hain (1871-1952), the son of a grazier, grew up in Cooma, N.S.W.. He attended The King's School, Parramatta, 1888-1889. He was principal pastoral respresentative for the Sydney stock and station agents, Pitt, Son & Badgery, 1904-1919. In 1928 he published Looking On (1928), a series of reflective essays on sundry topics. His son, William, was the Supervising Architect during the building of the Mitchell Library.

    In 1943 Hain donated to the Mitchell Library a watercolour drawing: The Roof of Australia: Fifty-Two Miles of Sky Line View of the Snowy Alps from the Victorian Border to the Township of Kiandra; with Heights of Mountains, followed in 1944 by another watercolour drawing: The Second Roof of Australia: Fifty-Two Miles of Sky Line View of the Snowy Alps from Ram's Head in the South to Alpine in the North; with Heights of Mountains. Both drawings are located at XV1B/SNOM/1-2.
