David Burn (1798-1875) first arrived in Hobart in 1826. He made several visits to Scotland and England before settling at 'Rotherwood' on the River Ouse. In 1842 he accompanied Sir John and Lady Franklin on their visit to the west coast of Tasmania. In the 1840s he was beset by financial difficulties and migrated to Auckland in 1847 where he worked as an editor and journalist on several newspapers until his retirement in 1865. He died in Auckland in 1875. Burn wrote books, plays, verse, and articles for magazines and newspapers. - Scope and Content2 diaries recording Burn's personal and professional life in Auckland.
